When you still need Kruti Dev

Many offices, courts, printing presses and typing exams still work in Kruti Dev 010, the Remington-layout Hindi font. Text you copy from a website, Google Translate or WhatsApp is Unicode, and pasted into a Kruti Dev document it shows as boxes or the wrong letters.

This converter rewrites Unicode Hindi in Kruti Dev's encoding. Paste the result into Word or PageMaker, set the font to Kruti Dev 010, and it shows as the same Hindi. The output looks like random English letters ("Hkkjr" for भारत) until that font is applied: that is expected.

Things to know

Only Hindi should go through the converter. English words in the same text are Kruti Dev letters too, so "OK" would display as Hindi glyphs. The same goes for a few symbols the font has no shape for, such as %, &, # and @. The tool lists any it finds under the boxes, so you can type them in a normal font after pasting. Dashes, the ellipsis and square brackets are written with the nearest Kruti Dev symbol, and ॐ, which Kruti Dev 010 cannot draw, is spelled out as ओम्.

We checked the output by displaying it in the real Kruti Dev 010 font next to the original. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.
