How it works
ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha) and its older version SSA are the formats Aegisub saves, and the ones used for anime fansubs and heavily styled captions. They can do fonts, colours, positions and karaoke. The trouble is that YouTube, Instagram, most TV apps and many editors do not read them, while every one of them reads SRT.
Paste the .ass or .ssa file or upload it. The tool reads the Events section, keeps the words and timing, and writes a clean, numbered SRT.
How the ASS file is converted
- Every Dialogue line becomes one SRT caption. Comment lines are skipped.
- ASS lists lines in any order, often grouped by style. The SRT is sorted by start time, which is what players expect.
- ASS times are in hundredths of a second (0:00:01.25). SRT uses thousandths, so 0:00:01.25 becomes 00:00:01,250 with no rounding.
\Nline breaks become real line breaks, and\hbecomes a space.- Italic, bold and underline tags (
{\i1},{\b1},{\u1}) become<i>,<b>and<u>. - Colours, fonts, positions, fades, karaoke timing and vector drawings have no SRT equivalent, so they are removed. Lines that only contain a drawing are left out.

Does it handle SSA files too?
Yes. SSA v4 and ASS v4+ files both work, including the older Marked field. Upload the .ssa file the same way.
Why did my styling disappear?
SRT only supports italic, bold and underline. Fonts, colours, outlines and positions live in the ASS styles and cannot be carried into an SRT file.
I need to fix the timing, not the format. Can I shift an ASS file?
