SRT and VTT Subtitle Converter
SRT to VTT, VTT to SRT, or subtitles to a plain transcript.
Free. No sign-up. Nothing leaves your device.
How it works
Different apps want different subtitle files. YouTube, Premiere Pro and CapCut take SRT. Web video players and the HTML <track> element want WebVTT. Sometimes you only want the words, for a blog post, show notes or a script. This converter handles all three directions without changing a single timestamp.
Paste the file or upload it, pick the format you need, and download. It also cleans up the problems that make files fail to import: Windows line endings, a hidden byte-order mark, missing or out-of-order caption numbers, a dot instead of a comma before the milliseconds, and extra blank lines.
SRT and VTT side by side
The two formats carry the same information. SRT numbers every caption and uses a comma before the milliseconds. WebVTT starts with a WEBVTT line, uses a dot, and can carry extra styling and position settings.

Going from VTT to SRT, WebVTT-only markup such as voice tags, colour classes and karaoke timestamps is removed, because SRT players would show it as text. Italic, bold and underline are kept. For a full comparison of the formats, including ASS, read SRT vs VTT vs ASS.
Subtitles to plain text
Choose TXT to get one caption per line with every timestamp and tag stripped. It is the quickest way to turn a subtitle file into a transcript you can edit, translate or paste into a description.
Need the subtitles in the first place?

Caption a video freeFrequently asked questions
Is the converter free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no file limit beyond 5 MB per file. It runs in your browser, so there is no server cost to pass on.
Are my subtitle files uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted on your device and never sent anywhere.
Will the timing change?
No. Every start and end time is carried across to the millisecond. Only the notation changes (comma or dot), as each format requires.
Which languages does it support?
All of them. Hindi, Tamil, Urdu, emoji or any other script passes through untouched, as UTF-8.
Can it convert ASS or SSA files?
Not yet. This tool reads SRT and WebVTT. DesiCaptions itself exports ASS when you caption a video.
My subtitles are out of sync. Can this fix it?
Use the subtitle time shift tool to move every caption earlier or later by an exact amount.
