Why KrutiDev text needs converting
Kruti Dev 010 is a Hindi font from before Unicode. It does not store Hindi letters at all: it stores ordinary keyboard characters and draws them as Devanagari. "Hkkjr" only looks like भारत while the Kruti Dev font is selected. Copy it into a website, an email, WhatsApp or a search box and it turns back into Hkkjr.
Unicode is the modern standard (fonts like Mangal, Nirmala UI and Noto Sans Devanagari use it), where भारत is stored as the Hindi letters themselves. This converter rewrites Kruti Dev text as Unicode, so it reads the same in any font, can be searched, and works on phones.

How to convert a Word file typed in Kruti Dev
- Open the document in Word, select all (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C).
- Paste into the KrutiDev box above. The Unicode Hindi appears on the right straight away.
- Click Copy, paste it back into Word, and set the font to Mangal, Nirmala UI or any Unicode Hindi font.
You can also upload a .txt file and download the converted copy. Only Kruti Dev text should go in the box: English typed in a normal font inside the same document will be read as Kruti Dev and come out as Hindi letters.
How accurate is it?
Kruti Dev types some signs in a different order from Unicode: the short i (ि) is typed before its letter and the half r on top (रेफ) after the syllable. The converter moves both, handles conjuncts such as क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ, द्य and श्र, nukta letters (ज़, फ़, ड़) and the font's symbols for commas, full stops and the danda (।). We checked the output against the real Kruti Dev 010 font, and fixed a mistake common to other converters, which read चौ as चै.
It works for Kruti Dev 010 and the other Kruti Dev fonts that use the same keyboard layout. Other legacy fonts such as Chanakya, DevLys or Shusha use different layouts and are not supported yet.
