SBV to SRT Converter
Turn a YouTube .sbv caption file into an SRT, or back again.
Free. No sign-up. Nothing leaves your device.
How it works
SBV (SubViewer) is the caption format YouTube Studio has long offered as a download. It is simple: a start and end time separated by a comma, then the words. Almost nothing outside YouTube opens it, so to reuse your captions in Premiere Pro, CapCut, Instagram or a client deliverable you need SRT.
Paste or upload the .sbv file and download the SRT. To go the other way, paste an SRT and set Convert to SBV.
SBV and SRT side by side
The two formats hold the same information in a different layout. SBV has no caption numbers, writes hours without a leading zero and separates the times with a comma. SRT numbers every caption, uses an arrow and puts a comma before the milliseconds.

Some YouTube exports write [br] for a line break. The converter turns it into a real line break.
SRT to SBV
SBV has no formatting, so italic and bold tags are removed when you convert an SRT to SBV. Blank lines inside a caption are closed up, because a blank line ends a caption in SBV.
Skip the file juggling
Upload a video and DesiCaptions writes word-timed captions in Hinglish, Hindi and other Indian languages, then exports SRT, VTT, ASS or a burned-in video. 1 free minute, no card.

Where do I get an SBV file?
SBV files usually come from YouTube Studio caption downloads, or from older captioning tools built around YouTube. If your download is an .srt or .vtt instead, you may not need this tool at all, and the VTT to SRT converter covers the other case.
Does YouTube accept SRT uploads?
Yes. YouTube takes SRT, VTT and SBV uploads, so you only need SBV when another tool asks for it specifically.
Will timing change?
No. Both formats store milliseconds, so every time carries across exactly.
Does it work with Hindi, Tamil or other scripts?
Yes. Any language and any script, emoji included, passes through untouched as UTF-8.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and converted on your device and never leaves it.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit beyond 5 MB per file. The conversion runs in your browser, so there is no server cost to pass on.
