SRT to Text Converter
Strip the numbers and timestamps and keep just the words.
Free. No sign-up. Nothing leaves your device.
How it works
A subtitle file already holds a full transcript of the video, buried between caption numbers and timestamps. Pull the words out and you have a script for a blog post, show notes, a YouTube description, a translation brief or an Instagram caption.
Paste or upload the file and the text appears straight away, one caption per line. SRT, WebVTT, ASS, SSA and YouTube SBV files all work.
What gets removed
- Caption numbers and every timestamp.
- Formatting tags, such as
<i>,<font>, WebVTT voice tags and ASS override blocks like{\an8}. - Line breaks inside a caption, so each caption reads as one line.
- Empty captions.
The words themselves are never changed, so Hinglish, Hindi or any other language comes out exactly as it was written.
Turning the transcript into paragraphs
One line per caption is easy to scan and to translate line by line. For an article, paste the result into any editor and join lines where the speaker changes topic. Captions break at a pause, so a new paragraph after a long pause usually reads naturally.
Skip the file juggling
Upload a video and DesiCaptions writes word-timed captions in Hinglish, Hindi and other Indian languages, then exports SRT, VTT, ASS or a burned-in video. 1 free minute, no card.
Caption a video freeFrequently asked questions
Can I convert VTT or ASS to text too?
Yes. The tool reads the format from the file itself, so SRT, VTT, ASS, SSA and SBV all give the same clean text.
Can I get the text back into a subtitle file?
Not from plain text, because the timing is gone. Keep the original file, or caption the video again with DesiCaptions to get new timing.
Does it remove speaker names?
WebVTT voice tags are removed, but a speaker name typed into the caption text (like "Host: hello") is kept, since it is part of the words.
Does it work with Hindi, Tamil or other scripts?
Yes. Any language and any script, emoji included, passes through untouched as UTF-8.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and converted on your device and never leaves it.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit beyond 5 MB per file. The conversion runs in your browser, so there is no server cost to pass on.
