Telugu Subtitle Generator

Telugu speech in, Tenglish or Telugu-script captions out.

Most subtitle tools give you Telugu in Telugu script or nothing. But look at how Telugu is actually typed on YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp, in Hyderabad and in Vijayawada alike: "nenu meeku cheptunna", "ela unnaru", "chala bagundi". That is Tenglish, and for short-form video it is what your viewers read fastest.

DesiCaptions transcribes Telugu speech and writes it the way people type it, English words kept in English and Telugu words in plain Roman letters. Prefer Telugu script? Switch the language to Telugu (Telugu script) and the same video comes out in proper Telugu letters, with English sentences translated and the everyday loanwords Telugu creators actually use kept the way they write them.

Either way every word carries its own timestamp, so word-by-word and karaoke caption styles land on the beat, and the Telugu-script mode ships with fonts that actually contain the glyphs, so you never get empty boxes or broken vottulu.

Why creators use it

Tenglish the way it is typed

Captions come out as "enti sangathulu" and "chala thanks", the spelling your audience already uses in comments. No diacritics, no dropped vowels.

Telugu script when you want it

Pick the Telugu (Telugu script) mode for a Telugu-first audience or formal content. Bundled Telugu fonts keep the conjuncts intact in the burned video.

Handles Telugu mixed with English

Telugu creators switch to English mid-sentence constantly. In Tenglish both halves share one alphabet; in Telugu script the English is translated and common loanwords stay recognisable.

Word-level timing

Every word carries its own timestamp, so word-by-word and karaoke caption styles land on the beat instead of drifting.

How it works

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, M4A, or WAV, up to 4 GB. The free plan includes 2 free minutes.

  2. Pick Tenglish or Telugu (Telugu script)

About a minute later for a Reel, or 2 to 3 minutes for a 5-minute video, you have a full transcript with word-level timestamps, in the script you chose.

  3. Style and export

Choose a caption template, fix any names in the editor, then export a burned-in video or an SRT, VTT, or ASS file.

One sentence, every mode

The same spoken line as DesiCaptions writes it in each mode you can pick for this language:

Tenglish (Roman script)

Eeroju nenu meeku mee life lo eppudu chudani oka adbhutamaina vishayam chupistha

Telugu (Telugu script)

ఈరోజు నేను మీకు మీ జీవితంలో ఎప్పుడూ చూడని ఒక అద్భుతమైన విషయం చూపిస్తాను

English (translated)

Today I am going to show you something absolutely amazing that you have never ever seen before in your entire life

What is different about captioning Telugu

Telugu words end in vowels, and Tenglish keeps them: "chesanu", "vastunnanu", "cheppandi". Tools that romanise Telugu with Hindi rules drop those final vowels and produce spellings no Telugu speaker types. DesiCaptions writes every vowel the speaker says.

Telugu builds long words by adding endings, so Telugu-script captions fill up quickly. In Telugu (Telugu script) mode an automatic caption holds about 32 characters against 42 in Tenglish, so long words do not crowd the screen. Vottulu and the vowel signs above and below each letter come from the bundled Telugu fonts, in the preview and in the burned video alike.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tenglish?

Telugu written in Roman letters, the way people type it on phones: "meeru ela unnaru", "naaku teliyadu". It is not a translation, only the alphabet changes, and the words, tone and slang stay exactly as spoken.

Will Telugu-script captions render correctly in every caption style?

Yes. Telugu captions are set in Noto Sans Telugu, or Baloo Tammudu 2 for the comic templates, in both the editor preview and the exported video, so what you see is what burns.

Does it work for Telangana Telugu as well as Andhra Telugu?

Yes. The speech model handles both, and Tenglish spelling follows common phone-typing conventions. Regional spellings you prefer are easy to fix in the transcript editor.

Can I get English captions for a Telugu video instead?

Yes. Choose English (Translate) and the Telugu speech is translated into natural English captions.

What does it cost?

There is a free plan with 2 free minutes and no credit card required. Each video uses exactly its own length from your balance. Paid minute packs start at 12 USD or 799 INR and never expire.
